Dry weather has left its traces in regions of the South. Inevitably, this will have a negative impact on this year’s aggregate output. In the Northeast and Northwest, the picture is totally different - farmers expect a strong harvest.

According to farmers from regions in the South, because of dry weather conditions, rapeseed output in that region area will be weak this year. Such a message stands as a premonition to buyers, who have been very cautions whether to gamble on green contracts so far in the season.

Rapeseed: this year’s total output could well be lower

SOFIA. Although harvest will start within a few weeks -- in different regions at different times, -- such an outlook seems grim for all market players since in recent years, the great majority of locally produced rapeseed is exported. Yet, there is a silver lining for prospective buyers since they should know that the rapeseed output in central South and Southwest regions represent a smaller portion of the total output through the country.

Released data by the Ministry of Agriculture shows that by the 25th of May 2017, available acreages for harvest stood at 165,489 ha, which is about 2.3% less than those available during the previous season by that time. By the same time this year, fallen through plots accounted to 20,678 ha, with the majority being recorded in the overall South regions.

Every coin has two sides

However, farmers from the overall North regions, which got sufficient amounts of rain so far, expect a stronger harvest; indeed, even though the winter was characterized by very low temperatures. For them, prospects are very encouraging, and because of the recent rains, they might start the harvest somewhat later than usual.
