Dried figs: buying raw materials becomes more difficult

AYDIN. Contracts concluded at more favourable prices make it possible for exports of Turkish dried figs to be comparatively successful. However, yield losses from this year's crop could cause prices to rise even further.

Only 50% of capacity utilised

During Ramadan, many processors are only working at half capacity, but exports of Turkish dried figs are still going surprisingly well. Available stocks are limited to what exporters have in stock, and some of these positions are already tied up in contracts. What has not yet been sold is also being prioritised for sale to existing customers. To make matters worse, Turkish banks have not been approving loans in lira since last Monday, which is affecting the purchase of raw materials.
