NEW DELHI/BUENOS AIRES. With peanut supplies nearly exhausted in Indonesia and new crops, notably from Argentina and Tanzania, comping into play the market has reached a turning point in India. Demand for US peanuts is stronger in the EU than in China.

Turning point

As supplies are starting to dry up in Indonesia and bookings from Malaysia are subtle the prices for peanuts have risen in India. Java 80/90 peanuts are trading at a much higher USD 1,280/mt CIF Jakarta. In addition, TJ peanuts are the hotcake variety for traders and prices have surged. In April, the market has, in fact, shown a quite a bit of growth. Although quotations for Bold peanuts range much lower than last year, they are following a similar pattern as in 2022. Yet, the pressure is also on.

Suppressive factors are not only that new crops
